Most people planning a trip to Disneyland Paris probably think about booking a hotel, spending a couple of days exploring the parks and making a proper holiday of it.
Me? I decided to take my six-year-old daughter for her birthday and squeeze the whole adventure into one extreme day trip! 😂
Our plan was simple enough: get up at a ridiculous hour, fly to Paris, spend as much time as possible in Disneyland and fly home the same night.
What could possibly go wrong?
Well, as it turned out, we had a surprise family reunion, some very expensive birthday shopping, a battle with French train ticket machines and a rather unfortunate encounter with the weather.
But we also had an absolutely brilliant day, and it's one I'll remember for a long time.
A 1am Start and a Surprise at the Airport
Our adventure started at the ridiculous time of 1am, when we had to get up to catch a coach from Liverpool to Manchester Airport.
The coach cost just £9, which was a decent start to the trip, although I'm not sure any amount of money saved makes getting up at that hour particularly enjoyable! 😂
We had a 6am flight from Manchester to Paris Charles de Gaulle, so there wasn't much time for hanging around.
But I'd arranged another surprise for my daughter.
Her granddad was flying over from Edinburgh for the day too, and we'd arranged to meet him at Charles de Gaulle Airport.
She had absolutely no idea he was going to be joining us!
It was lovely seeing them together, and it made an already special birthday even better. Three generations of the family, all meeting up in France for a day at Disneyland.
With everyone together, it was time to get moving.

Getting to Disneyland: The Express TGV
From Charles de Gaulle, we took the high-speed TGV train directly to Marne-la-Vallée–Chessy station, right outside Disneyland Paris.
The journey takes approximately 10 minutes, making it a brilliant option when you've only got one day and don't want to waste valuable time travelling.
The train itself was great.
Buying the tickets, however, was a completely different experience! 🤣
The ticket machines at Charles de Gaulle were an absolute nightmare to use. After being up since 1am, they were probably the last thing I wanted to be dealing with.
I'm fairly sure we paid around €50 return for the two of us.
My advice: Book your TGV tickets in advance if possible. Advance tickets can often be cheaper, and you'll avoid the hassle of trying to work out the airport ticket machines.
We arrived at Disneyland at around 10am, ready to make the most of our two-park tickets.
First Stop: Slinky Dog!
With two Disney parks to explore and only one day to do it, you might think we'd have a carefully planned itinerary.
Absolutely not.
My six-year-old daughter knew exactly where she wanted to go first.
Slinky Dog! 🤣
So off we went into Disney Adventure World (formerly Walt Disney Studios Park) and headed straight for Toy Story Playland.
After travelling all the way from Liverpool, I wasn't about to argue with the birthday girl.
Once we'd finished with Slinky Dog, it was time for another attraction on her list: Frozen Ever After, in the newly opened World of Frozen.
She absolutely loved it!
Seeing how much she was enjoying herself made the ridiculous early start worthwhile.
And we'd only just got started.
Coffee, Ice Cream and Chasing Goofy!
After enjoying a couple of rides, we decided to stop for a little break.
We grabbed some coffee and ice cream from one of the food vans before making our way towards the main Disneyland Park.

But before we'd even made it out of Disney Adventure World, my daughter spotted Goofy.
And that was it.
She was off! 😂
She was absolutely determined to catch up with him, and eventually managed to get a hug.
Honestly, I think that moment made her entire day.
Sometimes it's not the biggest rides or the most expensive attractions that create the best memories. Sometimes all it takes is a six-year-old on a mission to hug Goofy!
Buzz Lightyear: No Mercy, Even on Her Birthday!
Once we'd finally managed to leave Goofy behind, we headed into the main Disneyland Park.
Next on the birthday girl's list was Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast.
For anyone who hasn't been on it, it's an interactive ride where you shoot targets and try to rack up as many points as possible.
Naturally, I took this very seriously.
Some parents might let their six-year-old daughter win on her birthday.
Apparently, I'm not one of those parents. 🤣🤣
I'm pleased to report that I finished with the highest score.
Whether beating a six-year-old at Buzz Lightyear is something to be proud of is another question entirely!

Casey Jr. and the Great Disneyland Soaking
After my impressive victory on Buzz Lightyear, we headed over to Fantasyland for Casey Jr. – le Petit Train du Cirque, the little circus train inspired by Dumbo.
And this is where the weather decided to join in with the entertainment.
We'd literally just sat down when the heavens opened.
And I don't mean a little bit of drizzle.
It absolutely smashed it down! 🤣🤣
There we were, sitting on an outdoor train in Disneyland Paris, getting absolutely soaked.
After getting up at 1am and travelling all the way to France, it was just another ridiculous moment to add to the adventure.
Unfortunately, although the rain eased off a little afterwards, it stuck around for most of the rest of the day.
So here's a tip if you're visiting Disneyland Paris in spring: take a waterproof!
We visited at the beginning of May, and the weather certainly wasn't what you'd hope for at that time of year.
Still, we weren't going to let a bit of rain ruin the birthday celebrations.
Mad Hatter's Tea Cups, Chicken and Chips
Next up was the Mad Hatter's Tea Cups, another Disney classic that my daughter wanted to try.

By this point, we'd managed quite a few attractions despite the weather, and it was time to get something to eat.
We stopped for some chicken and chips before heading off to do a little birthday shopping.
Now, I'd already spent a fair bit getting us to Disneyland.
But apparently, the real financial damage was still to come.
The €90 Birthday Shopping Spree!
Anyone who's visited Disneyland Paris will know that the merchandise isn't exactly cheap.
But it was my daughter's birthday, so I let her choose a couple of presents.
Her choices?
A bag and a Stitch teddy.
The damage?
€90! 🤣🤣
I thought getting to Disneyland was going to be the expensive part of the day, but apparently I hadn't accounted for a six-year-old let loose in a Disney gift shop.
Still, she was delighted with her presents, and that's what mattered.
Although I reckon my bank card needed a holiday after that one!

Pirates of the Caribbean and the Carousel
With the birthday shopping finished and my bank account considerably lighter, we weren't quite done with the rides.
We headed over to Pirates of the Caribbean, one of Disneyland's classic attractions, before squeezing in another go on the carousel.
By this point, we'd been awake since 1am, travelled to another country, explored two parks, met Goofy, got soaked and spent a small fortune on birthday presents.
You'd think we'd be ready to call it a day.
But no.
The birthday girl still had other ideas! 😂
Saying Goodbye to Granddad… Then Back for More!
Eventually, it was time for granddad to head back to the airport.
His flight to Edinburgh was earlier than ours, so we walked him back to Chessy station to say goodbye.
It had been brilliant having him there, especially as his arrival had been a complete surprise.
After seeing him off, I thought we might be getting towards the end of our day.
Not a chance.
My daughter wanted another go on Frozen Ever After! 🤣
So off we went, straight back to Disney Adventure World.
And once we'd finished with Frozen Ever After, she decided we needed another go on Buzz Lightyear.
Then Pirates of the Caribbean.
At this point, I was convinced she had more energy than both of us adults put together.
She was certainly determined to get her money's worth out of those tickets, and to be fair, I couldn't argue with that!
We'd travelled all the way from Liverpool, so we might as well make the most of every minute.
Eventually, though, it really was time to leave.
The Journey Home: One Very Tired Birthday Girl
We made our way back to Marne-la-Vallée–Chessy station and caught the train to Charles de Gaulle Airport for our 10pm flight home.
One thing I'd done when booking was arrange to fly out from Manchester but return directly to Liverpool.
That worked out really well, as it meant we didn't have to worry about travelling back from Manchester Airport after such a long day.
Our flight landed at Liverpool John Lennon Airport at 10:35pm local time.
And by this point, the birthday girl had finally run out of energy.
She was absolutely shattered and slept for most of the journey home. 😂

I couldn't blame her!
We'd started our day at 1am, and here we were, nearly 22 hours later, back in Liverpool after squeezing what felt like an entire holiday into a single day.
Was it exhausting?
Absolutely.
But seeing how much she'd enjoyed herself made every minute worthwhile.
And the fact that her granddad had travelled all the way from Edinburgh to surprise her made it even more special.
How Much Did Our Extreme Disneyland Day Trip Cost?
One of the main reasons I wanted to share this trip was to show that you don't necessarily need to book a hotel and spend several days in Paris to enjoy Disneyland.
Here's what our day cost for the two of us.
| Expense | Cost |
|---|---|
| Flights — Manchester to Paris, Paris to Liverpool | £300 |
| Disneyland two-park tickets, disability discount | £85 |
| Liverpool to Manchester coach | £9 |
| Express TGV return tickets | Approx. €50 |
| Birthday shopping | €90 |
| Food, coffee and ice cream | Not recorded |
Total recorded spending: £394 + €140
That's approximately £515–£520, depending on the exchange rate, excluding food and drinks and granddad's separate travel costs.
For a special birthday trip that included flights, two Disney parks, a full day of rides and a rather expensive Stitch teddy, I don't think that was too bad!
You could obviously spend less by avoiding the birthday shopping, taking your own snacks and finding cheaper flights.
Disneyland Paris Disability Discounts and Priority Access
One thing that made a massive difference to our day was having disability access arrangements.
The queues were pretty bad when we visited, and with only one day to explore both parks, spending hours waiting for rides would have seriously limited what we could do.
Fortunately, we had a disability pass that allowed us to use quicker-access entrances for most of the attractions we wanted to visit.
It made an enormous difference.
We also received discounted park tickets, paying approximately £85 for the two of us.
For anyone visiting with a disability, I'd strongly recommend looking into Disney's accessibility arrangements before travelling.
Disneyland Paris offers discounted tickets for eligible disabled guests and an accompanying person, subject to its current eligibility rules. Its Priority Card is a separate accessibility arrangement, with proof requirements that should be checked in advance.
You can find the details on the official Disneyland Paris accessibility page:
https://www.disneylandparis.com/en-gb/guest-services/accessibility-at-disneylandparis/
Is Disney Premier Access Worth Buying for One Day?
If you're not eligible for disability priority access, I'd seriously consider looking into Disney Premier Access.
It's a paid service that provides quicker access to selected attractions, rather than a pass that covers absolutely everything.
When you're visiting for several days, you might be happy to spend longer in queues. But when you've flown over from the UK for a single day, every hour counts.
I'd compare the price against the attractions you actually want to ride before purchasing.
My Tips for an Extreme Disneyland Paris Day Trip
Having now attempted it with a six-year-old, these would be my main recommendations:
- Look at different airports. We flew from Manchester but returned to Liverpool, which worked really well for our schedule.
- Book the TGV in advance. The journey is incredibly quick, and advance fares can be cheaper. Plus, you'll avoid those nightmare ticket machines!
- Research disability discounts. If you're eligible, Disney's accessibility arrangements can make a massive difference.
- Consider Premier Access. If you're only visiting for one day, saving time in queues can be particularly valuable.
- Take waterproofs. We visited in early May and got absolutely soaked!
- Set a shopping budget. Otherwise, you might find yourself spending €90 on a bag and a Stitch teddy. 🤣
- Let the kids choose their favourites. We revisited Frozen Ever After, Buzz Lightyear and Pirates of the Caribbean because that's what my daughter wanted to do.
- Allow plenty of time for your return flight. The train journey is short, but you still need time for the station, airport procedures and security.
Would I Recommend Disneyland Paris as an Extreme Day Trip?
Absolutely — but with a few conditions.
It's a long, tiring day, especially if you're travelling with young children.
You also have to accept that you're not going to experience everything Disneyland Paris has to offer.
We managed plenty of rides, but having quicker access to attractions made a massive difference. Without that, we'd almost certainly have spent much more of the day waiting in queues.
For us, though, the trip was about much more than trying to get on every ride.
It was about giving my daughter a special birthday.
From meeting her granddad at the airport and chasing Goofy for a hug to getting absolutely drenched on Casey Jr. and spending far too much money in the Disney shops, we made some brilliant memories.
And seeing her fast asleep on the flight home, clutching her new birthday presents after such an incredible day, made the whole adventure worthwhile.
Would I do another extreme day trip to Disneyland Paris?
Definitely.
Although next time, I might try to avoid getting up at 1am! 😂
One world. Endless adventures.
